105 Indians Among Nearly 400 Missing After Flash Floods Hit Nepal Near Tibet Border
A sudden surge in the Bhote Koshi River has left hundreds missing, damaged hydropower projects and devastated settlements in Nepal.
At least 105 Indian tourists are among nearly 400 people reported missing after massive flash floods struck Nepal’s Rasuwa district near the Tibet border on Wednesday.
The sudden flooding swept through the Bhote Koshi River at around 9 am local time, affecting Rasuwa and Dhading districts near the Tibet border as well as Nuwakot district, located southwest of Kathmandu, officials said.
The disaster has caused widespread destruction in several settlements along the river. At least four people have been reported dead, while around a dozen hydropower projects have also suffered damage.
According to the Nepal Tourism Board, 384 travellers are missing in connection with the Rasuwa floods. The missing include 291 foreign nationals and 93 Nepalese citizens.
Among the foreign travellers are 105 Indian tourists and 37 Non Resident Indians. Tourists from the United States, Malaysia, the United Kingdom, South Africa, Australia and the Netherlands are also among those reported missing.
Authorities and tourism officials are working to gather information about those affected and assist families seeking updates about their relatives.
