Zepto Delivery Rider Assaulted on Road, Police Register Case After Video Goes Viral in Bengaluru
Incident caught on camera sparks outrage; police act suo motu despite no formal complaint

Bengaluru (Fikrokhabar News): Police in Bengaluru have registered a case after a disturbing video showing a Zepto delivery executive being violently assaulted by two men surfaced on social media. The incident, which reportedly occurred on the evening of January 4, came to light after the footage began circulating widely online on Friday.
According to the police, the delivery worker, identified as Deepak Kumar, had just picked up an order from a Zepto warehouse on 29th Cross in Kaggadasapura around 8 pm. While taking a right turn at a junction, two men riding another two-wheeler allegedly braked suddenly, lost balance, and fell. Soon after, they allegedly attacked Kumar without any provocation.
The video shows the two men repeatedly punching Kumar, hitting him with their helmets, knocking him to the ground, and kicking him while he lay on the road. Several bystanders can be seen trying to intervene, but the assault reportedly continued for some time.
Police said that although the victim has not filed a formal complaint, they took suo motu cognisance of the incident after the video went viral. A case has been registered against unidentified persons, and efforts are underway to identify and trace the attackers.
The incident has once again highlighted the vulnerability of gig economy workers in the city. Bengaluru has witnessed multiple cases in recent years where delivery executives from platforms such as Zepto, Swiggy, Zomato, and Dunzo have reported assaults following road disputes or work-related confrontations.
In June 2023, a food delivery agent was assaulted by residents and security guards of a gated community in Electronic City after a false allegation was made against him by a minor. CCTV footage later revealed that the claim was untrue, and police intervened after the delivery worker had already been attacked.
In another shocking incident in October 2025, a 24-year-old food delivery executive, Darshan, was killed in a road rage case in south Bengaluru. Police investigations revealed that the accused deliberately rammed his scooter after a minor traffic incident, leading to his death. The accused were later arrested and charged with murder.
Authorities have reiterated that violence against delivery workers will not be tolerated and have urged citizens to resolve disputes peacefully and report incidents promptly.
