Confusion and grief swept through Gaza on Friday as new Israeli strikes hit two locations, just days after the UN Security Council passed a resolution demanding an immediate ceasefire.

In Khan Younis, an explosion tore through a tent camp in the early hours. Atallah Abu Hadaiyed told The Associated Press he was finishing dawn prayers when the blast occurred.

“We came running and found my cousins lying here and there, with fire raging,” he said. “We don’t know if we’re at war or at peace. Where is the ceasefire they talked about?”

Further north, in Gaza City, a strike on an apartment building killed five members of a family. The Al-Shifa Hospital reported that three young sisters, their aunt, and their grandmother died in the attack.

“The three girls are gone, may God have mercy on them. They were asleep, we found them in the street,” said a relative, Samir al-Atbash. He stressed that the family were civilians with no ties to Hamas.

The Israeli military stated the strikes targeted Hamas operatives and infrastructure. In a statement on the Khan Younis incident, the Israel Defense Forces said it “struck a Hamas command and control center based inside a humanitarian area,” acknowledging that “the incident is under review.”

These latest incidents have ignited fresh anguish among displaced Palestinians and raised urgent questions about the implementation of the UN-backed ceasefire, which called for a halt in fighting for the remainder of Ramadan.
