WhatsApp to Launch ‘Close Friends’ Status Sharing Feature
WhatsApp is developing a feature that will allow people to share their status updates exclusively with a chosen group of close friends. This enhancement is currently available to some users in the latest iOS beta version (25.23.10.80) and is expected to roll out widely soon.
With the upcoming feature, users will be able to create a dedicated Close Friends list in their privacy settings. When posting a status, they can choose whether to share it with all contacts or just the selected close friends. These special updates will be marked with a distinct colored ring, making it easy for viewers to identify that the post is private and exclusive.
Importantly, contacts will not receive notifications when they are added or removed from the Close Friends list. Status updates shared in this way will still disappear after 24 hours and will remain protected by WhatsApp’s end-to-end encryption, ensuring users’ privacy and data security.
