After days of intense heat, a noticeable change in weather is being observed across coastal Karnataka. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast thunderstorms and rainfall over the next two to three days in districts including Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Uttara Kannada.

According to the IMD, atmospheric pressure developing over the Arabian Sea is likely to trigger rain accompanied by lightning and strong winds. Parts of South Interior Karnataka are also expected to receive significant rainfall.

In Mangaluru, the maximum temperature recorded on Tuesday was 33.5°C, slightly below normal, while the minimum stood at 25.2°C. However, recent days saw temperatures rise sharply, touching 39°C in Dakshina Kannada and 37.4°C in Udupi, indicating the severity of the heatwave.

In Uttara Kannada, areas such as Bhatkal, Kumta, and Karwar have also been experiencing rising temperatures over the past few days, causing discomfort among residents.

On Tuesday evening, several parts of Udupi district, including Kundapur, Hiriadka, Bellarpadi, and Atrady, recorded rainfall along with thunder and lightning, marking a sudden shift in weather conditions.

Heavy rain was reported in Siribagilu under Kadaba, while other areas received light showers. In Sullia, moderate rain was reported in Kalmadka and Panja, with some areas also witnessing hailstorms. Beltangady also experienced moderate rainfall.

Parts of Uttara Kannada are likely to see cloudy conditions and light rain, which may bring some relief from the heat.

Meanwhile, Sagara and nearby areas experienced heavy rain and thunderstorms on Tuesday afternoon, leading to disruptions. In the Ayodhya Tower area along B H Road, rainwater entered several shops due to poor construction work. Overflowing sewage water in other parts of the city caused flooding on roads, creating difficulties for residents.

The IMD has cautioned that unstable weather conditions may continue over the next few days. Residents have been advised to take necessary precautions, especially during lightning and strong winds, and avoid unnecessary travel during severe weather.
