New Delhi: The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has announced that Waqf Help Desks will be established at key locations across the country to assist mutawallis (caretakers) and stakeholders in uploading Waqf properties to the Umeed Portal, launched by the government.

This decision was taken during the executive council meeting of the Board held in New Delhi, chaired by Board President Maulana Khalid Saifullah Rahmani. The session focused on several pressing issues facing the community, including the complications surrounding the Umeed Portal.

Umeed Portal: Technical Glitches and Concerns

The meeting highlighted widespread complaints from multiple states and Waqf caretakers about the complexity and inefficiency of the Umeed Portal. According to the members, uploading even a single Waqf property document takes 40–45 minutes, and the portal often crashes during the process. If any mandatory document is missing, the portal halts, making the task extremely cumbersome.

To address these challenges, the Board resolved to set up state-wise and regional Waqf Help Desks staffed by technical and professional personnel to assist users with the uploading process.

Additionally, the Board has filed a petition in the Supreme Court requesting both an extension of the submission deadline and simplification of the portal. The next hearing on this matter is scheduled for October 28. Meanwhile, the Board has urged all concerned to upload property details promptly under the current system.

This meeting was the first physical gathering of the Board after the Supreme Court’s interim decision on the Waqf Act, and the Board’s legal team member Senior Advocate M.R. Shamshad briefed members on the developments. Many members expressed disappointment, noting that except for minor reliefs, the court did not address key contentious provisions.

Nationwide Campaign Against Waqf Amendment 2025

Dr. Syed Qasim Rasool Ilyas, convenor of the Board’s Waqf Protection Campaign, shared updates on the second phase of the movement opposing the 2025 Waqf Amendment Law. The focus now shifts to the major convention scheduled for November 16 at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan, which the Board aims to make a massive success.

It was agreed that maximum outreach will be done to involve all major religious and community organisations, with plans for state-level public gatherings wherever feasible. State convenors were given the freedom to adapt the campaign as per local circumstances.
