Uttara Kannada on Orange Alert: Brace for Very Heavy Rainfall, Warns IMD

Karwar, Karnataka: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange Alert for the Uttara Kannada district, effective from Thursday, August 28, 2025. The alert warns of impending Very Heavy Rainfall, prompting the district administration to advise residents to take necessary precautions.
The forecast, released by the Meteorological Center in Bengaluru and circulated by the office of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Karwar, is valid from 8:30 AM on August 28 to 8:30 AM on August 29, 2025.
An “Orange Alert” signifies a “Be Prepared To Take Action” status. According to the IMD’s classification, “Very Heavy Rainfall” indicates expected precipitation between 115.6 mm and 204.5 mm within a 24-hour period. Residents in low-lying areas and near riverbanks are particularly advised to be vigilant about potential waterlogging and flash floods.

Several other districts in the Malnad and North Interior Karnataka regions, such as Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Belagavi, and Kodagu, are also under an Orange Alert.
In light of the forecast, citizens are advised to:
- Stay updated with the latest weather bulletins.
- Avoid unnecessary travel and check for traffic disruptions before heading out.
- Ensure the safety of livestock and secure loose items around their homes.
- Fishermen are strongly advised not to venture into the sea due to rough conditions.
Local authorities and disaster management teams are on standby to handle any emergencies that may arise from the intense rainfall.
