A liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cargo ship from the United States has reached New Mangalore Port, providing a boost to fuel supplies amid ongoing disruptions linked to the conflict in the Middle East.

The vessel, Pyxis Pioneer, departed from Port of Nederland on February 14 and carried 16,714 metric tonnes of LPG. Officials said the cargo is being discharged for Aegis Logistics.

Notably, the ship’s arrival comes just a day after a Russian vessel, Aqua Titan, reached the same port, highlighting increased maritime activity in the region as India looks to secure energy supplies.

The development is particularly significant as Mangaluru houses India’s largest underground LPG storage facility. Commissioned in September 2025, the facility is located about 225 metres below sea level and has a storage capacity of 80,000 metric tonnes.

In a related development, the Russian crude oil tanker Aqua Titan, which was initially headed to China, was recently diverted to India. The ship arrived off the Mangaluru coast carrying approximately 7.7 lakh barrels of crude oil.

The crude is reportedly being transferred through an offshore pipeline connected to a jetty located around 12 nautical miles from the shore, and is being supplied to Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited.

The back-to-back arrival of energy shipments underscores India’s efforts to manage fuel supply challenges amid global uncertainties.
