UP Doctor Detained for Sharing Edited Video on Babri Masjid Demolition Anniversary
Meerut police say the clip could disrupt communal harmony; the doctor was released on bond the same day.

A woman Ayurvedic doctor from Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, was briefly detained on Sunday for allegedly posting an edited video on social media related to the 1992 Babri Masjid demolition. Police claimed the video had the potential to disturb communal harmony on the sensitive anniversary.
The accused, Dr. Sheeba Khan, a BAMS practitioner who runs a clinic in Abdullapur village under the Mawana police station, was taken into custody after the video surfaced during intensified monitoring on December 6. The date marks the demolition of the 16th-century Babri Masjid in Ayodhya by karsevaks in 1992—observed by Hindu groups as Shaurya Diwas and by many Muslim organisations as Youm-e-Gham or Black Day.
According to Mawana Station House Officer (SHO) Poonam Jadon, the video carried edited audio and visuals linked to the Babri case and was seen as an attempt to provoke tension or breach of peace.
A case was registered against Dr. Khan under Section 196 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (promoting enmity on religious grounds) and Section 67 of the IT Act for publishing or transmitting allegedly objectionable material online.
She was produced before Sub-Divisional Magistrate Santosh Kumar Singh under preventive action for breach of peace and was released on a personal bond the same day.
Police said the video has been sent for technical and forensic examination, and further action will be based on the findings. Meanwhile, local authorities have heightened vigilance in the area to curb rumours and ensure peace. No incidents of unrest have been reported so far.
