GAZA – The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) has reported a slight improvement in the flow of food aid into Gaza since the ceasefire began, though the current levels remain dangerously inadequate for the besieged population.

In a recent update, WFP spokesperson Martin Penner stated, “Things are better than before the ceasefire, but we have a long way to go.” He emphasized that “sustained support is an important endeavour to help families rebuild their health, their nutrition and their lives.”

Despite the increased access, the WFP has only reached about 530,000 of the 1.6 million people targeted with food parcels. The organization has brought in 40,000 tonnes of food since the truce, a figure that represents just 30 percent of its goal.

The situation remains dire, with hundreds of thousands of people still in urgent need of food assistance. Furthermore, the aid that has arrived faces new risks, including potential spoilage due to ongoing winter rains.
