UN Official Declares Israel’s Gaza War as Genocide

A landmark United Nations inquiry has determined that Israel’s ongoing war on Gaza amounts to genocide, nearly two years after the conflict began. The report from the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, chaired by Navi Pillay, found senior Israeli government officials—including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, former Defence Minister Yoav Gallant, and President Isaac Herzog—responsible for orchestrating and carrying out acts with “genocidal intent.”
“We’ve identified the president, the prime minister, and the former minister of defence based on their statements and the orders that they’ve given,” Pillay explained. The commission concluded that “the State of Israel has committed genocide” by seeking to destroy, in whole or in part, the Palestinian people in Gaza.
The report based its findings on both public statements from Israeli officials and on-ground evidence gathered by investigators. It cited “circumstantial evidence” and direct documentation of intent to destroy Gaza’s population.
In response, Israeli officials have fiercely rejected the findings, with the Foreign Ministry accusing the UN commission of serving as “Hamas proxies” and relying on “falsehoods.” Israel’s permanent representative to the UN labeled the inquiry “scandalous” and called for it to be disbanded.
The UN’s declaration is a pivotal moment, increasing global scrutiny and pressure on Israel amid the staggering humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
