Fikrokhabar News Desk | August 22, 2025: The United Nations has confirmed that the ongoing Israeli military operations in Gaza have forced more than 796,000 Palestinians to flee their homes since mid-March 2025.

UN Associate Spokesperson for the Secretary-General, Daniela Gross, said in a briefing that the forced displacement continues to rise as military attacks escalate. Between August 12 and 20 alone, almost 17,000 additional people were uprooted, highlighting the growing severity of the crisis.

According to UN data, about 95% of the new displacement has occurred in Gaza City, where residents have been escaping from eastern neighborhoods toward southern and western areas. The movement follows intensified Israeli bombardments and ground assaults that have devastated large parts of the city.

Since August 11, Israel has carried out a major offensive in the Zeitoun neighborhood in southeastern Gaza City, using heavy artillery, booby-trapped robots to demolish homes, and widespread gunfire. Palestinian officials accuse Israel of trying to gradually reoccupy the entire Gaza Strip, starting with Gaza City.

Earlier, in July, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) warned that around 88% of Gaza’s total area (360 sq km) had been placed under evacuation orders. This has effectively forced the displacement of civilians across one of the most densely populated areas in the world, home to about 2.3 million Palestinians.

Since the beginning of the war in October 2023, Israeli forces have continued their large-scale operations despite repeated calls from international organizations and binding rulings by the International Court of Justice demanding an end to the attacks.

According to Palestinian authorities, the conflict has so far resulted in more than 62,190 deaths and 157,000 injuries, most of them women and children. Over 9,000 people remain missing under collapsed buildings, while famine and lack of medical supplies have worsened the humanitarian disaster. At least 271 Palestinians — including 112 children — are reported to have died due to hunger.

The humanitarian crisis in Gaza continues to deepen, with hundreds of thousands of families living in makeshift shelters under worsening conditions of disease, hunger, and lack of clean water.
