UAE Leads the Way with First Successful 6G Test in the Middle East
A partnership between e& UAE and NYU Abu Dhabi achieves a breakthrough speed of 145 Gbps, paving the way for the future of connectivity.

ABU DHABI – The United Arab Emirates has taken a major leap into the future of wireless technology. In a first for the Middle East, e& UAE has successfully tested a 6G network, reaching a record-breaking speed of 145 gigabits per second (Gbps).
The successful test was a joint effort with researchers from New York University (NYU) Abu Dhabi. This achievement is a key step in the UAE’s goal to lead the world in developing smart, immersive, and sustainable digital connections.
The test used Terahertz (THz) frequencies, which are expected to power the next generation of wireless technology. This incredible speed and low-latency connection will make futuristic applications possible, such as:
- Holographic Telepresence: Having realistic 3D conversations with people who are far away.
- Extended Reality (XR): Blending the real and virtual worlds for gaming, work, and entertainment.
- Digital Twins: Creating perfect virtual copies of real-world objects or systems for testing and monitoring.
This accomplishment highlights the UAE’s ambition to be a global hub for innovation in wireless technology.
Marwan Bin Shaker, a senior officer at e& UAE, called the successful test a “breakthrough moment for the industry and for the UAE.” He stressed that teamwork between major companies and universities is crucial for creating the technology of tomorrow.
The collaboration between e& UAE and NYU Abu Dhabi shows how industry and academia can work together to push the boundaries of what is possible.
