Two Dead in Oman from Amphetamine-Laced Bottled Water; All Iran Imports Banned
An Omani citizen and an expatriate died after drinking "Uranus Star" brand water, which lab tests confirmed was deliberately contaminated with the drug amphetamine.

MUSCAT, OMAN – Omani authorities have banned all bottled water imports from Iran after two people died from drinking contaminated water. The deaths have been linked to the “Uranus Star” brand, which was found to contain amphetamine.
The government issued a public warning and immediately recalled the product from shelves across the country. According to Oman’s Ministry of Agriculture, Empowerment and Water Resources, laboratory tests revealed that the powerful drug was “deliberately introduced” into some of the water bottles.
The victims include an Omani citizen, who passed away on October 1 after two days in critical condition, and an expatriate woman who died on September 29. A third person, an Omani woman, also fell ill from the water but has recovered after receiving medical treatment.
In response to the tragedy, the Food Safety and Quality Centre has seized and destroyed all remaining stock of “Uranus Star” water. As a wider safety measure, the government has now stopped the import of all types of bottled water from Iran to ensure the safety of residents.
