Two Dead, 20 Injured in Devastating Boiler Blast at Gujarat Pharmaceutical Plant
A powerful explosion at a pharma factory in Bharuch district early Wednesday morning claimed two lives and left 20 workers injured, with rescue operations continuing amid fears of missing workers.
Tragedy struck a pharmaceutical manufacturing facility in Gujarat’s Bharuch district during the early hours of Wednesday when a boiler exploded, causing a massive fire and the partial collapse of the factory building.
The incident occurred around 2:30 AM at a plant located in the Saykha GIDC industrial area. According to Bharuch District Collector Gaurang Makwana, the boiler explosion was so powerful that it triggered an intense fire and caused significant structural damage to the facility.
“The blast was extremely severe and led to the factory structure collapsing,” Makwana explained. “Most workers managed to escape in time, but two employees became trapped under the debris and lost their lives. Their bodies were recovered after firefighters brought the flames under control.”
Approximately 20 workers sustained minor injuries during the incident and received medical attention. Emergency response teams, including fire brigade personnel, police officers, and forensic experts, rushed to the scene immediately after the explosion was reported.
Rescue and investigation teams are continuing to search the site carefully, as some workers have reported that one person may still be missing and could be trapped inside the collapsed sections of the building.
Officials from the Director Industrial Safety and Health (DISH) department have launched a formal inquiry into the incident. They are examining whether the factory was operating with all necessary licenses and safety permissions, and investigating what caused the boiler to explode.
The investigation will focus on safety compliance and operational standards at the facility to determine the exact cause of the tragedy and prevent similar incidents in the future.
