Tragic Accident Near Honnavar: One Dead, Several Injured as Bus Overturns into Ditch
Honnavar: A tragic road accident on Saturday evening in Honnavar taluk claimed one life and left several others seriously injured when a Bengaluru–Bhatkal public transport bus overturned and fell into a deep roadside ditch near Sulimurki Cross, close to Gerusoppa.
According to police, the accident occurred when the speeding bus collided with a car at a sharp curve. The impact was so severe that the bus lost control, veered off the road, and tumbled into a ditch, leaving the vehicle completely damaged. There were around 30 passengers on board at the time of the incident.
One passenger died on the spot, while more than ten others from both vehicles sustained serious injuries. Locals and police quickly rushed to the site and began rescue operations. Several ambulances, including 108 emergency services, were deployed to shift the injured to the Honnavar Government Hospital.
District in-charge Minister Mankal S. Vaidya visited the hospital soon after the incident, met with the injured, and directed officials to provide immediate and proper medical care.
The accident caused a major traffic disruption on the highway for several hours. Police later cleared the wreckage and restored vehicle movement.
A case has been registered at the Honnavar Police Station, and an investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the collision.
