TMC Leader Announces Plan to Lay Babri Masjid Foundation in Murshidabad on Dec 6; Hindu Mahasabha Issues Threat
The announcement has triggered sharp reactions from BJP and Hindutva groups, with the Hindu Mahasabha allegedly issuing violent threats.

Trinamool Congress MLA Humayun Kabir has stirred a major political controversy in West Bengal after announcing that the foundation stone for a “Babri Masjid” will be laid on December 6 in Beldanga, Murshidabad. Kabir, who represents Bharatpur, said arrangements are being made for a stage that can seat around 400 people. He added that the exact location of the stage will be revealed on December 4.
Kabir said the specific plot on which the foundation ceremony will take place has not yet been finalised. However, rumours have been circulating that the land chosen for the event is disputed. Reports also suggest that the land does not belong to the MLA, raising questions about how the decision to lay the foundation stone was made.
Responding to these concerns, Kabir said, “I don’t know who gave the land and who didn’t. Who told you that the land being discussed is the one where the Babri Masjid will be built?” He claimed he has “six different plots ready,” and that he has neither inspected any plot nor disclosed any particular location.
“If someone comes to harm me, proper arrangements will be made for them,” he warned, indicating heightened tensions around the issue.
Kabir’s announcement has drawn strong criticism from the BJP and several Hindutva organisations. The Hindu Mahasabha has reportedly escalated matters by digging a symbolic grave and announcing a reward of ₹1 crore for bringing Kabir “dead or alive,” a threat that has further intensified the political atmosphere in the region.
