‘Time Will Answer When I Become CM,’ Says Karnataka Deputy CM D K Shivakumar
Congress leader says all must respect party high command amid renewed speculation over leadership change in Karnataka.

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister and state Congress president D K Shivakumar on Saturday said that only time will decide when he will become the Chief Minister, adding that everyone must abide by the decision of the Congress high command.
Shivakumar’s remarks come at a time when speculation over a leadership change in Karnataka has resurfaced, highlighting the long-standing power-sharing debate between him and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. The issue gained fresh attention after Siddaramaiah’s son, Yathindra, recently stated that the Chief Minister would complete his full five-year term, claiming that the party leadership had already given its approval.
Responding to questions from reporters about growing demands from his supporters for him to take over as Chief Minister, Shivakumar said that such sentiments exist among people, party legislators, and even the media. However, he stressed that the final decision rests with the party.
“People, legislators, you (the media), everyone may have their own desires, but we all have to follow what the party decides,” he said.
When asked whether he could be elevated to the top post after the upcoming state budget, Shivakumar gave a brief reply, saying, “Time will answer.”
The comments reflect the continued uncertainty surrounding Karnataka’s leadership arrangement, even as the Congress government approaches another year in office.
