AIMIM’s Akhtarul Iman dismisses political labels, says his party stands firm on issues others avoid
Patna: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) Bihar president Akhtarul Iman has hit back at critics who often label his party as the “B-team” of other political outfits. Speaking in an exclusive conversation, Iman said such remarks are made only because AIMIM “speaks uncomfortable truths” that mainstream parties prefer to ignore.
“They call us the B-team because we speak the truth. We raise issues others are afraid to touch,” Iman asserted, adding that AIMIM’s politics is guided by principles, not alliances.
Iman emphasized that AIMIM represents the voice of the marginalized and the neglected sections of society. “Our struggle is for justice and equality. We talk about education, employment, and the rights of minorities — and that makes some people uncomfortable,” he said.
The Bihar AIMIM chief also criticized what he described as “selective secularism” among larger political parties, arguing that real secularism means ensuring dignity and development for all communities, not just using them as vote banks.
He reiterated that AIMIM’s focus remains on strengthening grassroots democracy and bringing honest representation to the Assembly. “We are not here to please anyone; we are here to serve the people. The truth has no team it stands alone,” Iman said.
