Patna: As Nitish Kumar prepares to move to the Rajya Sabha and step down as the Chief Minister of Bihar, the decision has triggered strong political reactions in the state. The opposition Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has sharply criticised the development, accusing the ruling alliance of sidelining the veteran leader.

Former Bihar Deputy Chief Minister and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav took a swipe at Kumar, saying that when the JD(U) chief had earlier left their alliance, there was no valid reason behind the move. He added that during the elections his party had refrained from making personal attacks against Kumar.

Targeting the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Yadav alleged that the party prefers “rubber stamp chief ministers.” He claimed that his party had long maintained that Nitish Kumar had effectively been “hijacked,” and that the latest political developments had proved their point.

Yadav also accused the BJP of weakening its allies wherever it forms alliances. According to him, the party’s larger goal is to push the agenda of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). He further alleged that elections are increasingly being fought through what he called a “machine-driven system,” claiming that democracy is under threat and that people in Bihar are closely watching the situation.

Despite his criticism, Yadav said he sympathised with Kumar over the developments. He remarked that if the JD(U) leader had remained with their alliance, he might not have had to face such a situation today. He also wished Kumar good health.

Meanwhile, RJD spokesperson Mrityunjay Tiwari said that the BJP had quickly weakened both Nitish Kumar and the Janata Dal (United). He alleged that several leaders within JD(U) were working closely with the BJP and described the situation in Bihar as a form of “political takeover.”

Amid the political turmoil, Nitish Kumar also responded to the developments. He said that the people of Bihar had placed their trust in him for more than two decades and that it was because of that support that he was able to serve the state.

Kumar stated that the confidence and backing of the people helped Bihar achieve new milestones in development and dignity. He also expressed his gratitude to the citizens of the state for their continued faith in his leadership.
