Tamil Nadu to Introduce Bill Banning Hindi from Public Spaces
The state assembly will vote on legislation prohibiting Hindi signage and film screenings in the state.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin is set to present a new bill that would ban the use of Hindi across the state. The legislation will be introduced on the final day of the current assembly session.
If passed, the bill would prohibit Hindi-language hoardings and advertisements in public spaces. It would also ban the screening of Hindi-language films in theaters throughout Tamil Nadu.
The move comes as part of the state government’s efforts to protect and promote the Tamil language. Tamil Nadu has historically maintained strong linguistic identity, with Tamil being the primary language used in government, education, and daily life.
The bill is expected to face debate in the assembly before any final decision is made. Details about enforcement mechanisms and timelines have not yet been disclosed.
