Talapady Tragedy: Six Dead, Including Five of a Family, as Bus Crashes into Autorickshaw

Mangaluru, August 28 – A horrific road accident near the Talapady toll gate on Thursday afternoon claimed six lives, including five members of the same family, after a bus rammed into an autorickshaw. The devastating collision occurred around midday and has left the local community in mourning.
According to police, the bus was travelling from K C Road when it collided head-on with an autorickshaw carrying the family. The impact was so intense that the auto was completely crushed. Moments later, the same bus struck another autorickshaw from behind, causing it to overturn. Two pedestrians nearby also sustained injuries and were taken to Mangalpady Hospital for treatment.
The deceased have been identified as:
- Haider Ali (47) – the autorickshaw driver
- Avvamma – a resident of Farangipet
- Khatuja (60) – from Azzinadkka
- Hasna – daughter of Khatuja
- Nafeesa (52) – sister of Khatuja
- Ayesha (19) – daughter of Nafeesa
All victims, except for the driver, were from the same extended family. They hailed from Mullugudde in Azzinadkka and were on their way to visit relatives in Kunjathur, Manjeshwar, when tragedy struck.
Local authorities have registered a case at the Manjeshwar Police Station, and an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the accident.
The incident has raised renewed concerns about road safety and the reckless operation of heavy vehicles on this busy route.
