Supreme Court Seeks Response from Centre and Assam Govt Over Alleged Anti-Muslim BJP Video
Petitioners claim BJP Assam’s video on social media spreads communal hate and targets Muslims.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court of India on Tuesday issued notices to the Central Government and the Assam State Government seeking their response over a controversial video posted by the BJP’s Assam unit on social media, which allegedly promotes anti-Muslim sentiment.
A bench comprising Justice Vikram Nath and Justice Sandeep Mehta took up the matter based on a joint petition filed by senior journalist Qurban Ali and senior advocate Anjana Prakash. Arguing on their behalf, senior lawyer Nizam Pasha urged the court to direct authorities to file an FIR against those responsible for the video. He also requested the court to consider contempt proceedings if the police failed to act.
What the Petition Alleges
According to the petition, the video was posted on September 15 from the official ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) account of BJP Assam Pradesh. The video allegedly suggests that if the BJP loses power, Muslims will take control of Assam.
The visuals reportedly show Muslim men and women wearing skullcaps and burqas appearing to take over government offices, airports, and playgrounds, portraying a scenario where Assam becomes a Muslim-majority state.
The petitioners argued that as a ruling party, the BJP has a constitutional responsibility to uphold secular values, yet this video targets, vilifies, and demonizes the Muslim community.
Social Media Reach and Demand for Removal
By September 18, the video had reportedly been reposted over 6,100 times, received more than 19,000 likes, and had been viewed over 4.6 million times on the platform.
The petition calls for the immediate removal of the video to prevent further harm to communal harmony. Both BJP Assam Pradesh and X India Pvt. Ltd. have been named as respondents in the case.
Next Hearing
The Supreme Court has scheduled the next hearing for October 28.
