Social Media Post Forces Authorities to Act on Tenginagundi Cross Road Problem

Karwar, Aug 20: One strongly-worded social media post has compelled authorities to pay attention to a serious civic problem. On Tuesday night, Syed Ali, a member of Heble Panchayat, highlighted the poor condition of the road at Tenginagundi Cross, where stagnant rainwater was causing major trouble for daily commuters.
Ali recorded a video of the waterlogged road and shared it on his social media, tagging the Karnataka Chief Minister’s Office as well as Public Works Department (PWD) officials, demanding urgent intervention.
“While returning from Haneefabad, I saw the entire stretch flooded. Vehicles were struggling to move. I decided to report it through social media so that higher officials would take notice,” Ali explained.
Quick Response from Officials
The post quickly drew the attention of local authorities. Within a short time, engineers from the PWD, municipal officers, and staff from the Karwar Deputy Commissioner’s office rushed to the spot for inspection.
Later, the Office of the Special Duty Officer (OSD) attached to the Chief Minister’s Office acknowledged the complaint and marked it as “noted.” The same evening, Karwar municipal authorities contacted Syed Ali, assuring follow-up action.
Longstanding Issue, Says Public
Residents pointed out that complaints regarding this particular road had been raised earlier too, but no effective measures were taken. Officials during inspection admitted the issue is linked to incomplete drainage planning coupled with construction-related permissions issued long back.
Assurance of Solution
Officials promised to clear the water and improve drainage within the next few days. Locals, however, remain cautious, pointing out that earlier promises often fell through without concrete results.
Nevertheless, this incident yet again highlights how social media has become a powerful tool for citizens to demand accountability and push for quick action from the administration.
