Following the royal decree issued by King Salman bin Abdul Aziz, Saudi Arabia will hold special rain-seeking prayers, known as Salat Al-Istisqa, across the Kingdom on Thursday, November 13.

In the holy city of Madinah, Sheikh Dr. Ahmad bin Ali bin Abdul Rahman Al-Hudhaifi, the imam and preacher of the Prophet’s Mosque, will lead the prayer. The announcement was made by the General Presidency for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques.

The prayer is scheduled for 6:51 AM on Thursday at the Prophet’s Mosque, where worshippers will gather to seek God’s mercy and ask for rainfall during the current dry conditions.

Salat Al-Istisqa is a special Islamic prayer performed during times of drought. The prayer consists of two units, followed by a sermon where the imam encourages the community to repent and pray for rain.

The Saudi Royal Court has urged all residents to increase their worship during this time. People are encouraged to seek forgiveness, perform extra prayers, give charity, and remember God frequently in the days leading up to the special prayer.

“Everyone should strive to show kindness to others, help those facing difficulties, and provide relief to people in distress,” the royal court statement said.

The Kingdom hopes that through collective prayer and sincere repentance, God will bless the land with much-needed rainfall.

Other Gulf countries have also organized similar prayers in recent weeks. Kuwait held rain prayers on November 8, while the United Arab Emirates conducted them on October 17, showing a regional effort to address dry weather conditions.
