MAKKAH, SAUDI ARABIA – Saudi Arabia has announced a major new development project in Makkah called ‘King Salman Gate’, which will significantly expand the area around the Grand Mosque. The project, launched by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, is set to add approximately 900,000 new indoor and outdoor praying spaces for worshippers.

Spanning a massive 12 million square meters, the project is designed to improve access to the Grand Mosque and enhance the overall experience for pilgrims. According to the RUA AlHaram AlMakki Company, which is managing the development, it will also be connected to public transport networks to make travel easier for visitors.

This development is a key part of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 plan for economic transformation. It is expected to create more than 300,000 jobs by the year 2036. Beyond its religious importance, ‘King Salman Gate’ will be a mixed-use destination, offering residential areas, hotels, shops, and cultural attractions.

In addition to modern development, the project also focuses on preserving Makkah’s rich history. Plans include the restoration of about 19,000 square meters of heritage sites, ensuring the city’s cultural legacy is protected for future generations.

Details about the project’s total cost and its expected completion date have not yet been released.
