RJD Leader Rajkumar Rai Shot Dead in Patna
Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Rajkumar Rai, also known as Allah Rai, was shot dead on Wednesday night in Patna’s Munna Chak area under the Chitragupta police station limits.
According to police, two unidentified assailants opened fire at Rai, who was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead on arrival. The incident comes just months before the Bihar assembly elections. Sources said Rai was preparing to contest from the Raghopur assembly constituency.
Police officials indicated that a dispute over land may have been the motive behind the killing, as Rai was engaged in land-related business. Six empty cartridges were found at the scene. CCTV footage from the area captured the attackers carrying out the crime before fleeing.
Patna Eastern Superintendent of Police Parichay Kumar said efforts are underway to identify and arrest the culprits. A forensic team also visited the spot to collect evidence.
The killing of Rai has triggered shock in political circles, especially given his expected participation in the upcoming polls.
