Red Alert in Uttara Kannada; Heavy Rains and Thunderstorms to Hit Bhatkal

Bhatkal, Uttara Kannada: Residents of Bhatkal and the entire Uttara Kannada district are advised to take immediate precautions as the Meteorological Center in Bengaluru has issued a Red Alert for the region. The warning is in effect from 8:30 AM on Wednesday, August 27, until 8:30 AM on Thursday, August 28, 2025.
According to the official forecast, the district is expected to receive heavy rainfall, with accumulations likely to range from 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm. The weather alert also warns of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, increasing the risk for residents.
A “Red Alert” signifies the need for immediate action to prevent potential damage to life and property. Authorities have advised citizens to:
- Avoid unnecessary travel.
- Stay away from low-lying areas that are prone to waterlogging.
- Take shelter during thunderstorm activity.
- Follow all advisories issued by local disaster management authorities.
While the coastal districts, including Uttara Kannada, are under the highest alert, much of the rest of Karnataka has been placed under a “Yellow Alert,” which calls for the public to “Be Prepared” for adverse weather.
