RCB Announces Rs 25 Lakh Compensation for Families of Chinnaswamy Stadium Stampede Victims

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) champions, has announced a compensation of Rs 25 lakh each for the families of the 11 victims who tragically lost their lives in the stampede at Chinnaswamy Stadium on June 4, 2025, during the team’s victory celebrations.
The franchise revealed this financial support as part of its new initiative, RCB Cares, which aims to provide long-term assistance and care to those impacted by the tragedy. In a heartfelt message shared on social media, RCB expressed its deep sorrow, acknowledging the loss of 11 members of its extended family. “Our hearts broke on June 4, 2025,” the post read. “They were part of us. Part of what makes our city, our community, and our team unique. Their absence will echo in the memories of each one of us.”
While emphasizing that no amount of financial aid could fill the void left by the victims, RCB pledged that the Rs 25 lakh for each family was just the first step in a larger, ongoing effort to support them. “This is a promise of compassion, unity, and ongoing care,” the statement continued.
The stampede occurred a day after RCB secured its first IPL title in 18 years by defeating Punjab Kings in the final. To celebrate the victory, thousands of fans gathered at the stadium for a felicitation ceremony and an open bus parade. However, the crowd—estimated to be over two lakh people—overwhelmed the stadium’s capacity of just 32,000, leading to a chaotic situation at the gates that caused the tragic stampede. In addition to the fatalities, at least 50 others were injured in the incident.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had earlier announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the families of the deceased, while RCB had also provided Rs 10 lakh to each family as a gesture of solidarity and respect in the immediate aftermath.
RCB’s new initiative, RCB Cares, promises continued support and is designed to be a long-term commitment that will reflect the values of compassion and unity that the franchise stands for.
