Puttur: Car Hits Culvert on NH-75, Catches Fire; Two Escape Safely
Vehicle veers out of control during highway construction work; occupants suffer only minor injuries.

A major accident was narrowly avoided near Kanchana Cross at Neerakatte on National Highway 75 in Puttur after a car crashed into a roadside culvert and caught fire on Friday, January 30.
According to reports, four-laning work is currently underway on this stretch of the highway. While construction of the new highway is in progress, traffic has been diverted to the old road. The car, which was travelling from Hassan towards Uppinangady, reportedly went out of the driver’s control amid the altered road conditions.
The vehicle is said to have moved into the opposite direction before crashing into a culvert that had been installed as part of the ongoing highway construction work. Soon after the impact, flames were seen rising from the engine area, and the car quickly caught fire.
A young man and a young woman who were travelling in the vehicle managed to escape in time, sustaining only minor injuries. Their quick action helped them avoid a potentially fatal situation.
A fire tender from Puttur was rushed to the spot and successfully brought the fire under control. However, by the time the flames were extinguished, the front portion of the car had been completely destroyed.
Further details about the incident are awaited.
