Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will travel to Israel on February 25 and 26 for a two-day official visit, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed on Sunday. Netanyahu made the announcement while speaking at the Conference of Presidents of Major Jewish Organizations.

“Who is coming here next week? Narendra Modi,” Netanyahu told the audience, adding that Modi may also address the Knesset, Israel’s Parliament, during the visit.

Netanyahu spoke warmly about the relationship between the two countries, describing India as a powerful and important partner. “India is not a small country. It has a population of 1.4 billion people. It is extremely powerful and extremely popular,” he said.

According to sources cited by PTI, the full schedule for the visit is still being finalized, but the trip is expected to carry significant weight for both nations. Modi is likely to raise bilateral as well as regional issues during his meetings.

This will be Modi’s second visit to Israel. His first trip, in July 2017, made history as the first-ever visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Israel.

The visit comes after a busy period of diplomatic activity between the two countries. Several Israeli ministers visited India last year, including the Ministers of Tourism, Economy, Agriculture, and Finance. In return, India’s Trade Minister Piyush Goyal visited Israel in November, where both sides agreed on the terms of a Free Trade Agreement (FTA). Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar also visited Israel in December, meeting with Netanyahu, President Isaac Herzog, and other senior officials.

In November, India and Israel also signed a landmark defense agreement focused on joint development and co-production of advanced technologies.

Modi’s visit is seen as the natural next step in a relationship that has been growing steadily across trade, defense, and diplomacy.
