Philippines Lifts Tsunami Warning After Powerful 7.4 Quake Hits Mindanao
President Marcos Jr. had ordered coastal evacuations after the major tremor struck off the nation's southern coast.

MANILA – A tsunami warning issued for the Philippines has been canceled, hours after a powerful magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck off the coast of the southern island of Mindanao on Friday.
The powerful quake initially prompted fears of a “destructive tsunami,” leading authorities to issue urgent warnings for coastal communities along the country’s Pacific coast.
In response to the threat, Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ordered the immediate evacuation of residents in low-lying coastal areas. In a public statement, the President confirmed that authorities were actively assessing the situation.
He also added that search and rescue teams were being prepared and would be sent to affected areas as soon as it was safe. With the tsunami alert now lifted, officials are continuing to evaluate the extent of any damage caused by the earthquake itself. Sources
