Passenger Dies After Falling From Bus During Overtaking Mishap on NH-66
A 52-year-old Kapu resident lost his life after being thrown out of a moving bus near Uchila.
Kaup: A tragic accident on NH-66 claimed the life of a 52-year-old passenger travelling in a private express bus from Mangaluru to Udupi on Saturday.
The victim, identified as Sakendra Poojary, a resident of Kapu Padugrama and an employee at a hotel in Mangaluru, was reportedly standing near the front door preparing to get off the bus when the incident occurred. According to police, the bus driver suddenly veered to the right while attempting to overtake a vehicle ahead. The unexpected movement caused Sakendra to lose balance and fall out of the bus, after which he struck the road divider and suffered severe head injuries.
Local residents rushed to help and provided first aid before shifting him to the Udupi district hospital. Despite efforts, doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Sakendra, who was unmarried, is survived by his brother and sister. The Padubidri police have registered a case against the bus driver for negligent driving.
