Owaisi Criticizes Amit Shah Over ‘Infiltration’ Remarks, Suggests He Needs a Math Teacher

As the Bihar Assembly elections draw near, political tensions in the state are heating up. Leaders from various parties are making bold statements to strengthen their positions. In this context, AIMIM president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi has strongly responded to a recent comment made by Union Home Minister and senior BJP leader Amit Shah.

Owaisi took aim at Shah’s claim that illegal infiltration has led to a significant rise in the Muslim population. Mocking the statement, Owaisi said Shah needs a “math teacher” to understand real numbers. He referred to official data from the Election Commission’s ECI SVEEP (Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation) program, which shows that in the Seemanchal region, only four Muslims were found whose citizenship could not be verified — directly challenging BJP’s narrative of widespread illegal infiltration.

The Hyderabad MP accused the BJP of consistently defaming hardworking people in Seemanchal by labeling them as infiltrators. He criticized the NRC (National Register of Citizens) and NPR (National Population Register) processes as exploitative, especially for the poor, and said they have failed to prove the claims of mass infiltration.

With the elections approaching, Owaisi urged the people of Seemanchal to unite and vote against divisive politics. He called on them to take pride in their identity and not fall for propaganda that seeks to divide communities.

Political analysts in Bihar believe that voters in the Seemanchal region are now more focused on development and dignity rather than being influenced by rhetoric around infiltration. The mood, they say, is shifting toward performance-based politics.

On Monday, Owaisi also reacted on social media platform ‘X’ (formerly Twitter), reposting a message that said, “Seemanchal Zindabad! What did they dig up, and what did they find?” He pointed out that despite repeated attempts by the BJP to brand the region’s Muslims as outsiders, the official data has exposed the truth.

It is worth noting that Amit Shah had recently stated in a public speech that the Muslim population in India has increased by 24.6%, compared to a 4.5% increase in the Hindu population. He attributed this alleged imbalance to illegal immigration from Pakistan and Bangladesh — a comment that sparked strong backlash from opposition leaders and the public alike.
