Over 52 Million Visit the Two Holy Mosques in Safar 1447

More than 52.8 million people visited the Grand Mosque in Makkah and the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah during the Islamic month of Safar 1447, marking one of the highest monthly visitor numbers ever announced. This milestone was shared by the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah together with the General Authority for the Care of the Two Holy Mosques.
Detailed Visitor Breakdown
According to official data, over 21.4 million worshippers prayed at the Grand Mosque in Makkah, with more than 51,000 of them performing prayers inside the special area of Hijr Ismail (Al-Hatim). In the same period, 7.5 million performed Umrah. At the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah, the number of worshippers reached 20.6 million, including over 1.18 million who prayed in the revered Rawdah Al-Sharifah area. Furthermore, more than two million pilgrims visited the mosque to offer salutations to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and his two companions.
Technology and Operations
Saudi authorities have emphasized their use of advanced sensors and digital technology to accurately track visitor numbers and ensure safety across the holy sites. This modern approach is part of efforts to improve crowd management, coordinate efficiently with security and health agencies, and provide services that make pilgrims’ journeys easier and more organized throughout the year.
Commitment to Pilgrim Services
Officials highlight that these achievements showcase Saudi Arabia’s dedication to serving pilgrims from around the world and reflect strong coordination among various government bodies. The record turnout in Safar comes shortly after another busy month in Muharram, during which the Two Holy Mosques also received tens of millions of visitors, underlining the growing appeal and improved capacity of these sacred landmarks.
