Belagavi: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah informed the Legislative Council on Thursday that Karnataka has 2,84,881 vacant posts across various government departments, and the state plans to fill them in a phased manner once it receives the required approval from the Finance Department.

He was responding to a question raised by BJP MLC Nirani Hanamant Rudrappa during the Question Hour. The Chief Minister said that of the total vacancies, 1,01,420 posts are vacant in different boards and corporations, while universities have 14,677 unfilled positions. Siddaramaiah noted that the government has already given approval to begin recruitment for 24,300 posts. Under Article 371J, which provides special provisions for the Hyderabad-Karnataka region, 32,132 posts are yet to be filled. In total, steps have been initiated to fill 56,432 vacancies, he said.

He explained that the delay in recruitment over the past months was largely due to complications surrounding internal reservation. With that issue now resolved, the government will begin filling vacancies in stages, subject to clearance from the Finance Department.
