Kerala BJP state president and former Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar said on Tuesday that the Union cabinet has no Muslim ministers because the Muslim community does not vote for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He made the remarks during a press conference in Kozhikode.

Chandrasekhar argued that the BJP should not be held responsible for the lack of Muslim representation in the cabinet, pointing out that the party currently has no Muslim MPs in either the Lok Sabha or Rajya Sabha. “Muslims are not voting for us. What can we do if the community is not supporting us? No ministers in the Union cabinet because there are no MPs from the community,” he said.

He insisted that the absence of trust from Muslim voters did not arise from any wrongdoing by the BJP. “That trust has not been there. What is the reason for that? That is not what we did. We have not hurt anyone,” he said.

Chandrasekhar also questioned the community’s voting pattern, asking why Muslims preferred the Congress over the BJP. “What if I ask why Muslims are not voting for us? Why are they voting for Congress? Is there any benefit in giving votes to Congress?” he asked.

He further noted that the BJP and its allies had Muslim leaders in the past, including Shahnawaz Hussain and Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, and added that the party continues to have representation from Kashmir.
