Muslim Umrah Pilgrims Allegedly Harassed, Forced to Bow Inside Temple in Delhi by Hindutva Group

A disturbing incident has emerged from Yamuna Bazar in Delhi, where a group of Muslim pilgrims returning from Umrah were allegedly harassed, abused, and forced to bow inside a Hanuman temple by members of a Hindutva group. The incident, which reportedly took place on August 22, gained attention after a video went viral on September 7.
The group, clearly identifiable by their beards and skull caps, were travelling in a mini-bus from Delhi to Saharanpur and had stopped near the temple for food. It was then that a group of local youths, allegedly associated with a Hindu nationalist outfit, confronted them.
According to eyewitness accounts and video footage, the youths snatched the pilgrims’ caps, forced them into the temple premises, and compelled them to bow down, all while shouting religious slogans like “Jai Shri Ram.”
One of the main accused, Siddharth Sharma, is seen in the video in an inebriated state, claiming the passengers had urinated near the temple, which allegedly provoked the confrontation. He is heard threatening the driver and saying, “This is our temple. I bow my head here, and now I’ll make them do the same.”
The bus driver also faced verbal abuse despite explaining that the group had only stopped to eat nearby.
When contacted by Maktoob, Delhi North District DCP Raja Banthia confirmed that a complaint had been submitted by the victims. However, he noted that an FIR had not yet been registered. “We have taken cognizance of the video. The man will be called for investigation after identification,” the DCP stated.
The video has sparked outrage on social media, with activists and civil rights groups condemning the act as a clear violation of religious freedom and human dignity.
As of now, no arrests have been made, and police say the case is still under investigation.
