Mumbai: Flight operations at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) will be suspended for six hours on November 20 as part of its annual post-monsoon runway maintenance, the airport operator announced on Monday.

According to Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL), jointly owned by the Adani Group and the Airports Authority of India (AAI), both cross runways 09/27 and 14/32 will be temporarily closed from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the maintenance period.

The shutdown, MIAL said, is necessary to ensure “continued safety, reliability, and compliance with global aviation standards.” The airport, which handles around 950 flights daily, is India’s second busiest after Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport.

A Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) has already been issued, giving airlines and stakeholders time to adjust flight schedules and manpower planning. This advance notice is expected to minimize disruption and ensure smooth coordination during the maintenance window.

The scheduled work will include detailed inspections, surface and lighting repairs, assessment of runway markings, and checks on the airport’s drainage systems.

MIAL emphasized that such regular maintenance activities are essential to maintaining operational efficiency and passenger safety throughout the year.
