Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday held a telephonic conversation with Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian, extending greetings on the occasions of Eid and Nowruz while discussing the evolving security situation in West Asia.

During the call, Modi expressed hope that the festive season would bring peace, stability, and prosperity to the region. He also voiced concern over recent attacks on critical infrastructure, warning that such incidents could destabilize the region and disrupt global supply chains.

The Prime Minister stressed the importance of maintaining freedom of navigation and ensuring that key shipping routes remain open and secure. His remarks come amid rising tensions that have affected maritime movement, particularly around the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, through which a significant portion of the world’s energy supplies pass.

Modi also acknowledged Iran’s continued support in ensuring the safety of Indian nationals residing in the country.

This marks the second conversation between the two leaders since the conflict escalated on February 28, following military actions involving the United States and Israel against Iran, and subsequent retaliatory measures by Iran.

Earlier, on March 12, President Pezeshkian had briefed Modi on the situation in Iran and shared his perspective on recent developments. India has consistently maintained that ongoing issues should be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy, according to the Ministry of External Affairs.

Since the conflict began, Modi has also spoken with several global leaders, including those from Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, Jordan, France, and Malaysia, as part of India’s diplomatic outreach.
