Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday concluded a busy election campaign schedule in Kerala, where he addressed a large public rally in Thiruvalla and led a major roadshow in the state capital.

During his speech, Modi brought foreign policy into the election debate, accusing the opposition of making statements that could harm India’s relations with countries in the Middle East. He alleged that the Indian National Congress was not concerned about Indians stranded in the region during ongoing tensions.

The Prime Minister said that while elections come and go, the safety of Indian citizens remains his government’s top priority. He particularly highlighted the concerns of people from Kerala working in Gulf countries, assuring that efforts are being made to ensure their security and safe return.

Modi noted that, apart from a large number of Keralites, fishermen from states like Goa and Tamil Nadu are also affected due to the ongoing conflict in parts of the Middle East, including Iran. He said the government is actively working to bring them back safely.

He criticised the opposition for what he described as irresponsible remarks, claiming such statements could negatively impact India’s diplomatic relations with West Asian nations and create unnecessary fear among citizens. He also suggested that these criticisms were politically motivated.

The remarks come at a time when the government’s foreign policy has been under scrutiny. Recently, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra had criticised the Centre’s handling of the situation in the Middle East during an election rally.

The Member of Parliament from Wayanad accused the Prime Minister of failing to adequately protect Indians in the Gulf region and alleged that the government’s approach reflected weakness in dealing with global powers like the United States and Israel.

The exchange highlights how foreign policy has become a key issue in the ongoing election campaign in Kerala, with both sides trading sharp accusations.
