BHATKAL – Maulana Syed Bilal Hasani Nadwi, the Nazim (Administrator) of Nadwatul Ulama in Lucknow, delivered a powerful Friday sermon at Jama Masjid Bhatkal, urging Muslims to be grateful for the blessings bestowed upon them by Allah.
Speaking to the congregation, Maulana Nadwi highlighted that Islam itself is the greatest blessing from Allah, and it is through Islam that all other blessings are fulfilled. He stressed that recognizing and protecting these blessings is a fundamental responsibility of every Muslim.
True Gratitude Goes Beyond Words
The scholar explained that gratitude is not merely verbal. “True thankfulness means using every gift from Allah – whether it’s strength, youth, wealth, or knowledge – in the right, lawful, and beneficial way,” he said. He warned that failing to appreciate these blessings can result in their loss.
Maulana Nadwi described faith, Islam, and religious knowledge as tremendous blessings that help reform individuals and society, safeguard faith, and pass on the religious message to future generations. While worldly comforts are also blessings, their misuse leads to ungratefulness and social corruption, he noted.
Protect Your Faith Like a Treasure
Drawing an analogy, the religious leader said, “Where there is treasure, there are also thieves.” He urged the community to remain vigilant against internal and external attacks on faith and Islamic identity. “We must ensure our Islamic identity doesn’t weaken and our community doesn’t become hollow from within,” he cautioned.
Maulana Nadwi expressed concern about rising incidents of atheism and practices contrary to Islamic monotheism in certain areas. He said these trends appear to be gaining momentum, fueled not just by external factors but also by the community’s own negligence. “If we fail to value our blessings, they may manifest as deprivation and trials,” he warned.
Call for Simplicity in Marriages
Addressing social issues, the scholar called for simplicity in wedding ceremonies and urged people not to make wealth the standard of success. He pointed out that unnecessary lifestyle standards are creating obstacles for young people seeking marriage. “The real standards should be religion, morals, and noble character,” he emphasized.
For improving business and economic conditions, Maulana Nadwi stressed honesty, contentment, and adherence to the Quran and Sunnah. “Wealth should not occupy the heart. The guarantee of success lies in faith and high character,” he stated.
