Major Fire at Dhaka Airport Halts All Flights
Firefighters are battling a large blaze that has broken out at the international airport's cargo terminal.

DHAKA, BANGLADESH – A major fire erupted at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Saturday afternoon, leading to the immediate suspension of all flight operations.
The fire reportedly started around 2:30 PM local time in the airport’s cargo terminal, specifically near Gate 8. This area, known as the cargo village, is used to store imported goods.
Emergency services are at the scene in a large-scale operation to control the blaze. Officials from the Fire Service and Civil Defence confirmed that twenty-eight firefighting units were initially dispatched, with additional reinforcements called in to help.
The effort is being coordinated between several agencies, including the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh, the fire service, two units from the Bangladesh Air Force, and two platoons of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).
An airport spokesperson assured the public that all aircraft were safe from the fire. “All our aircraft are confirmed safe. Further updates will be provided as the situation develops,” the spokesperson told The Daily Star.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined. As of now, there have been no reports of any casualties or injuries. Investigations into the cause and the full extent of the damage are expected to begin once the fire is under control.
