Madina Bus Tragedy: Funeral Held at Masjid an-Nabawi; Hyderabad Umrah Pilgrims Laid to Rest in Jannat al-Baqi
Victims of the 17 November accident were buried in the holy graveyard after a large funeral prayer attended by thousands.

The Hyderabad pilgrims who lost their lives in the tragic bus accident near Madina on 17 November were laid to rest on Saturday, 22 November, in Jannat al-Baqi. Their funeral prayer was held after Zuhr at Masjid an-Nabawi ﷺ, led by Sheikh Abdul Bari al-Thubaity, with thousands of worshippers participating in an atmosphere filled with grief and prayer.
After the funeral prayer, the bodies were taken from the Prophet’s Mosque to Jannat al-Baqi, where they were buried according to Islamic rites.
A special delegation from the Telangana government reached Madina to oversee arrangements and support the affected families. The delegation was led by Mohammed Azharuddin, Minister for Minority Welfare, and included Secretary B. Shafiullah and AIMIM MLA Majid Hussain. They met Saudi officials and assured full assistance to the bereaved families.
The Indian Embassy confirmed that all last rites were completed on 22 November. Andhra Pradesh Governor Justice S. Abdul Nazeer, India’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Dr. Suhel Khan, and Consul General Fahad Suri were also present.
Details of the Accident
The devastating accident occurred at around 1:30 a.m. on 17 November, when a bus travelling from Makkah to Madina collided with an oil tanker, causing the bus to catch fire. There were 46 pilgrims on board; 45 died on the spot, and only one passenger, Abdul Shuhaib Mohammed, survived. He remains in critical condition in the ICU.
Among the deceased were 18 members of the same family, including 10 children, a tragedy that has sent shockwaves through Hyderabad and across the country. Both the state and central governments have assured full support to the families affected by this heartbreaking incident.
