Kundapura Man Loses Over ₹1 Lakh in Mobile Hacking Scam

Kundapura, September 19 – A resident of Vandse has lost nearly ₹1.27 lakh to cybercriminals in a sophisticated mobile phone hacking scam. The victim, Arun Kumar Shetty, filed a complaint with the Kollur Police Station after discovering that a large sum of money was illegally transferred from his bank account.

The incident began on September 17, when Mr. Shetty received a phone call from an unknown number. The caller, who introduced himself as “Rahul” and spoke in Hindi, quickly disconnected, claiming he had dialled a “wrong number.”

Immediately after the brief call, Mr. Shetty received a One-Time Password (OTP) on his mobile. Feeling suspicious, he checked his SDCC Bank account, which is linked to his phone number. He was shocked to find that his balance was only ₹54 and that ₹1.27 lakh had been transferred out without his knowledge.

Mr. Shetty acted quickly and reported the fraudulent transaction to the national cybercrime helpline (1930). His prompt action helped authorities successfully reverse one of the transactions, recovering ₹27,000.

In his police complaint, Mr. Shetty alleged that the caller, “Rahul,” hacked his phone to steal the money. The Kollur Police have registered a case and launched an investigation to trace the culprits.
