KSRTC Hikes Luggage Charges by Around 15%, New Rates Effective February 16
Revision follows rise in diesel and operational costs; passengers can carry up to 30 kg free.

Bengaluru: The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has revised its luggage charges, with the new rates coming into effect from February 16, 2026.
In a recent circular, the corporation said the decision was taken in view of rising diesel prices, increased staff salaries, and other operational expenses. It stated that luggage charges for items carried on its buses have been updated after reviewing the overall cost burden.
Officials clarified that luggage charges are generally revised whenever passenger fares are increased. However, when bus fares were hiked in January 2025, the luggage tariffs were not changed at that time.
“Since the luggage charges were not revised along with last year’s fare hike, they have now been increased with effect from tomorrow,” officials said on Sunday.
They also pointed out that the previous revision of luggage charges was carried out in December 2021. As per existing rules, passengers are allowed to carry up to 30 kilograms of luggage free of cost. Charges are applicable only for baggage exceeding this limit.
According to reports, the revised luggage charges reflect an increase of approximately 15 percent, in line with the fare hike implemented last year. The rates are calculated based on travel stages.
Under the updated structure, luggage charges will be Rs 6 for stages 1–5, Rs 12 for stages 6–10, Rs 20 for stages 11–15, and Rs 25 for stages 16–20. The charges increase progressively with distance, going up to Rs 145 for stages 156–160.
Passengers are advised to check the revised stage-wise rates before travel to avoid inconvenience.
