Karwar Police Hold Bike Rally to Promote Helmet Use
District Superintendent of Police emphasizes that saving a life is more important than saving a hairstyle.

Karwar: The Karwar Police Department organized a bike rally on Tuesday to raise awareness about the importance of wearing helmets while riding two-wheelers. The event aimed to educate the public on how helmets can prevent fatal injuries in road accidents.
District Superintendent of Police (SP) Deepan M. flagged off the rally from the Police Parade Ground. Speaking at the event, he urged people not to avoid helmets just to protect their hair. “You can regrow your hair, but you cannot get your life back,” he said. SP Deepan highlighted the devastating impact on families when a breadwinner dies in a road accident, pushing the entire family into severe hardship.
The rally, featuring police officers and staff wearing helmets, traveled through various streets of the city. Participants carried messages encouraging citizens to protect their lives by using helmets.
In a statement to the media, SP Deepan announced that this awareness campaign will continue for a week across all police stations in the district. He expressed concern over the rising number of deaths in accidents involving riders without helmets this year compared to the last.
“Almost every household has a two-wheeler. Parents who give bikes to their children above 18 must insist that they wear a helmet,” he added. The police are also trying to spread this message through their “Ghar Ghar Police” (Police at Every Home) program.
According to data released by the police, a total of 37,151 traffic violation cases were registered in the district in 2024. This year, 33,000 cases have already been filed. Additionally, 307 cases of drunk driving have been registered, and 150 driving licenses have been recommended for cancellation.
