As Karnataka prepares to launch its State Caste Census on September 22, 2025, the Muslim community in Bhatkal has been urged by Majlis Islah Tanzeem to actively and accurately participate in this significant exercise.

Key points emphasized by Tanzeem include:

  • Unified Muslim Caste Identity: All Muslims should record their religion as Islam and caste simply as Muslim with no sub-caste divisions. This unity is vital to ensure the community’s population strength is accurately reflected.
  • Complete and Honest Data Entry: Families are advised to provide truthful and comprehensive answers to the 60 census questions covering education, employment, assets, and social benefits. Accuracy will ensure maximum access to government welfare programs and reservations.
  • Preparation & Documentation: Residents should prepare key documents like Aadhaar, ration cards, and voter IDs in advance. If the primary household member is absent during the survey, another responsible family member must provide information to census officials.
  • Community Welfare Impact: The caste census data will directly influence how the government designs future welfare schemes, financial support, and reservations for the Muslim community in Karnataka, especially in Bhatkal where resource allocation can significantly improve livelihoods.
  • Awareness & Cooperation: Tanzeem called upon all families to cooperate fully, take this census seriously, and spread awareness on its importance within the community. This united approach is seen as a crucial step toward social justice and empowerment.

This announcement was made public through Jamia Masjid to ensure widespread community awareness and encourage participation among Bhatkal Muslims.

The Karnataka caste census has also sparked wider debate about caste categorizations and reservation policies across the state. With Muslims projected to be one of the largest communities at around 18% of the population, the census results hold major implications for the socio-political landscape in Karnataka.
