Karnataka Schools to Remain Closed Until October 18 for State-Wide Survey
The holiday for government and aided schools aims to help teachers complete the ongoing Social and Educational Survey, which is behind schedule in several districts.

BENGALURU: The Karnataka government has announced that all government and aided schools across the state will be on holiday until October 18. The decision was made to allow for the completion of the state’s ongoing Social and Educational Survey.
The announcement followed a high-level review meeting at Vidhana Soudha on Tuesday, chaired by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar. They met to assess the progress of the survey, which is being conducted by the Karnataka State Commission for Social and Educational Development.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah explained that the survey was not yet finished. “The Social, Educational and Economic Survey, which began on September 2, was scheduled to conclude today,” he said. “However, the process remains incomplete in several districts. For example, while Koppal district has achieved 97% completion, Dakshina Kannada is only at around 67%.”
He added that the government approved the holiday extension following requests from the Education Department, the Commission for Backward Classes, and various teachers’ associations.
In a related update, the Chief Minister confirmed that PU lecturers have been exempted from survey duties, as the II PUC mid-term examinations are set to begin on October 12.
