Bengaluru, August 22: In a move that will bring relief to thousands of vehicle owners, the Karnataka government has once again announced a 50% waiver on long-pending traffic fines. The concession will be available for a limited period from August 23 to September 12, 2025, according to an official notification.

The order, issued by Pushpa V S, Under Secretary of the State Transport Department, states that the discount applies only to traffic violation cases booked under the police department’s e-challan system up to February 11, 2023. Motorists with such pending challans can now settle their dues by paying only half the actual amount.

A senior transport official explained that the move is aimed at encouraging defaulters who have not paid fines for several years. The government expects this step to boost revenue collection while ensuring that motorists come forward to clear pending violations.

The scheme is not applicable to violations recorded after February 12, 2023. However, officials indicated that a similar discount initiative for more recent cases may be introduced next year.

Earlier, the Karnataka government had launched a comparable drive, which helped recover a substantial amount in dues. Encouraged by its success, the state has now revived the rebate scheme for a fresh window of three weeks.

Motorists can log in to the official traffic e-challan portal or visit designated traffic police offices to check their pending fines and make payments at the discounted rate.
